Monumental silver vase valued for insurance
We recently undertook an insurance valuation of a collection of silver and the stand out piece was this monumental silver Warwick style 2-handled vase with applied masks and entwined vine handles, on a circular embossed foot engraved with the maker’s name of Elkington & Co.
It has the date letter on the hallmark for Birmingham 1901/1902, stands 40cm high and weighs in at nearly 225 troy ounces. So it is heavier than the FA Cup and about the same height, if you don’t count the lid on the FA Cup.
