Insurance valuation in “Billionaires Row”.

We regularly undertake insurance valuations but never before in the most famous and expensive area of real estate in Britain, possibly the world.

The grand properties in Kensington Palace Gardens comprise many diplomatic buildings and homes for the famous and super rich. Unsurprisingly it is often referred to as “billionaires row”.

The road was originally called The Queens Road and was developed in the 1840s from land previously laid out as kitchen gardens for Kensington Palace. It is still owned and administered by the Crown Estate, so the houses are actually leasehold properties. In about 1870 an  avenue of plane trees was planted and at this time the road was re-named Kensington Palace Gardens, however numbers 1-10 actually have the address Palace Green.

We were honoured when appointed to value the principal contents of one of the diplomatic buildings in the road.

This is what makes our job so varied and interesting. One day you might be in a £50 million property and the next a modest bungalow on the south coast. We treat every job with the same level of care and professionalism.

If you require an insurance valuation from a piece of jewellery right up to an entire contents then contact us for an insurance valuation prepared by a RICS accredited and qualified valuer.

I discovered this pair of Castellani bracelets on a routine probate valuation in Hove, amongst a group of costume jewellery. The family had no idea what they were or where they had come from.
Fortunately I knew exactly what they were and entered them into a Bonhams auction where they sold today for £30,000 plus buyer’s premium.
Made circa 1865 in a Byzantine style they are set with sugarloaf and cabochon sapphires and each is marked on the reverse with the interlocking CC mark.

Another Louis Vuitton trunk sold on behalf of a client to a private collector. This time a wardrobe trunk complete with drawers and hanging rail. A few condition issues but it is going to be sent to France for a first class sympathetic restoration. No more than it deserves.

Alfred Daniels, 1966. London street view near Charing Cross; oil on canvas; signed and dated; 70cm x 90cm.
A great looking painting in lovely original condition that I saw on a probate valuation this afternoon.
Daniel’s was once described as a “Lowry for Londoners”. Born in Bow in the east end of London he studied at the Royal College of Art. In the 1960s he taught at Hornsey College of Art.

I always enjoy walking in London because you never know what architectural gems are just around the next corner. This is the Royal Arcade in Albermarle Street which was built in 1879 and is opposite Brown’s the oldest hotel in London.
