As book valuation experts we are often asked to value books from a single volume right through to large collections or libraries. Our highly experienced consultants offer professional advice to help you achieve the best price.
Certain books are highly sought after and can fetch excellent prices. Condition and rarity is intrinsic to their value.
We provide book valuations for probate and sale purposes. This would include early and rare books, 20th century first editions, fine leather bindings, private press, illustrated works, limited editions, and old libraries. As with most areas of collecting condition is key to achieving a high value.
If you’re thinking about selling your books, a valuation from one of our experts can determine how much they might achieve if sold, either directly to a collector or dealer, or via an auction room. We can arrange an appointment at a mutually convenient time anywhere in the country.
As we work on a commission basis it is in our interest to achieve the very best price for our clients through our vast network of private collectors, dealers and auction rooms throughout the country.
If we broker a sale to a collector or dealer then we charge a 10% commission (no vat on top) on the price achieved. If we arrange the sale through an auction room then you are not charged anything extra, by way of commission, by the auctioneers but out of what they earn they pay us an introductory commission.
Why get a valuation with us?
Recently we brokered a private sale of a hardback copy of Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale for £50,000. This was a signed first edition, first issue (without Sunday Times review) in lovely condition, with the original dust jacket. The market for 20th century first edition classics by the great authors is particularly strong at the moment so now might be a good time to check out what you have in your bookcases.
