Lucie Rie bowl discovered by Nicholas Muston sells for £26,000

This stunning Lucie Rie footed bowl was discovered by Nicholas Muston, on a probate valuation, amongst a large collection of over 100 pieces of studio pottery. It was purchased directly from artist in the late 1980s and comes with a signed letter. It has a diameter of 20cm and stands 10cm high. Decorated with a beautiful trailed, peacock palette, glaze of greens and blues with an iridescent manganese oxide, bronze coloured rim. The bowl is quite a discovery and sold at auction, in a specialist sale, for £26,000.
Lucie Rie was so accomplished and respected in her field that she elevated the position of pottery to that of fine arts in her lifetime. She paved the way for later generations and left behind an unrivalled ceramic legacy. She received many accolades and awards throughout her life and was finally made a Dame in 1991, shortly before her death in 1995, at the age of 93.
