Painting valuations

We provide painting valuations for sale, probate and insurance purposes.
This delightful oil painting, by one of my favourite artists, was recently valued by my company for insurance purposes. It depicts barges on the Thames by Edward Seago (1910 – 1974).
Born in East Anglia his prodigious talent developed from a young age and his work was influenced by Sir Alfred Munnings and another East Anglian resident and artist Bertram Priestman, whom he corresponded with throughout his life.
Through his friendship with Princess Mary, Countess of Harewood, he formed a close association with the Royal Family, particularly with Queen Mary, the Queen Mother, Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Charles.
In 1956 he was invited by Prince Philip to join him on the Royal Yacht Britannia on his world tour of the Antarctic, the South Atlantic and West Africa. Obviously he painted extensively on this trip.
He was so popular and successful in his lifetime that when the London galleries, that handled his work, put on a new Exhibition customers would start queuing outside the premises from 6.30am.
