Stamp Collection In For Sale

I have just finished cataloguing, for auction, a collection of stamps that I recently took in for sale on behalf of a client.
In the world of philately high value stamps are generally much rarer and therefore much more sought after and more valuable to a collector. The photograph shows a Victorian 5 shilling in rose and a 10 shilling in ultramarine. This was a lot of money when issued in 1884 but even more surprising is the production of a £5 stamp which was first issued in 1867, a vast sum of money at that date.
I have only sold one in my 40 years of handling stamp collections and that was from a collection that I sold on behalf of the beneficiaries of a deceased estate for over £100,000. They had been residing in a bank deposit box for over 50 years and the family didn’t know of their existence. A lovely and unexpected surprise.
