The famous Penny Black was the first adhesive postage stamp which was first issued on the 1st May 1840 but was not in fact valid for use until May 6th.
This pair comes from a vast collection of British and Commonwealth stamps that I have just taken in for sale and includes other penny blacks and a number of twopenny blues. Other highlights include two 1840 Mulready covers and a cover dated 1801 that features a rare apple shaped postal mark.
We are regularly asked to value stamp collections for probate, sale and insurance purposes, so if you would like our advice please contact us.< BACK TO POSTS
